Use the Simple Past to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past.

 

AFFIRMATIVE FORM

S + VERB IN PAST + COMPLEMENT


Examples:

Mary danced in the party.

Harry went to the church yesterday.



NEGATIVE FORM

S + DID NOT / DIDN'T + VERB IN PRESENT + COMPLEMENT 



Examples:

Mary did not dance in the party.

Harry didn't go to the church yesterday.



INTERROGATIVE FORM

DID  +  S + VERB IN PRESENT + COMPLEMENT + ?



Examples:

Did Mary dance in the party?

Did Harry go to the church yesterday?
